Itinerary


Upon arrival in Paro, you will be greeted by our team and driver to Thimphu, passing through Chuzom (confluence) where the Paro and Wang rivers meet. Stop for a photo opportunity at a suspension bridge before continuing your drive to Thimphu. After checking into your hotel, visit the Centenary Farmers' Market (open Thu-Sun) to explore local produce and crafts. Continue to the Takin Preserve to see Bhutan's national animal, then visit the National Memorial Chorten, a stupa dedicated to the third King of Bhutan. Finish your day at the Craft Bazaar, where you can shop for traditional Bhutanese handicrafts. End the evening with a leisure walk through Thimphu town before enjoying dinner in the city.

After breakfast, visit Kuenselphodrang (Buddha Point) to see Bhutan’s largest Buddha statue with views of Thimphu Valley. Then, drive to the base of Tango Monastery and enjoy a 2-hour hike through oak, pine, and rhododendron forests, encountering local wildlife. The monastery, built in 1689, is a peaceful place for meditation and higher monk studies. After lunch in Thimphu, visit the School of Traditional Painting of Arts and Crafts, Nado Poizokhang Incense Factory, and the National Textile Museum to explore Bhutan’s rich culture and craftsmanship. Then, visit the Bhutan Postal Museum and Tashichhodzong, the center of government and religion.

After breakfast, visit Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendup Lhakhang for stunning views of Punakha and Wangdue valleys, perfect for photography. Next, travel through the upper Punakha valley and take a leisurely walk through a suspension bridge and paddy fields to reach Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Lhakhang, a temple built by the Queen Mother for peace and stability. The walk to the temple takes about an hour, offering beautiful views of the valley. Enjoy a 2-hour round trip hike, visit the temple, and take in the breathtaking scenery. You’ll have a picnic lunch by the riverside, followed by a 30-minute drive to Gaselo village, where you can experience traditional farming life. Walk through farmhouses, interact with the locals, and enjoy the simplicity of rural life.

Overnight in Punakha.

After breakfast, drive to Trongsa, with lunch en-route. The journey takes you through Nobding village, dense oak and blue pine forests, and subtropical vegetation. You’ll cross Pele La Pass (3300m) and pass through scenic rural Bhutan, with picturesque settlements, open meadows, yak herder valleys, and Chendebji Chorten. On arrival in Trongsa, check into your hotel. After refreshing, visit the National Museum, housed in the Ta Dzong (watchtower), where you can explore Bhutanese culture and history through exhibits and a documentary. Then, visit Trongsa Dzong, built in 1644 by the Zhabdrung, known for its architectural grandeur. In the evening, explore Trongsa Town.

After breakfast, drive to Bumthang via Yotong La Pass (3400m). Stop at the Yathra Weaving Centre in Zugney Village to see local weavers creating colorful woolen textiles. Upon arrival in Bumthang, enjoy a traditional lunch at a farmhouse, then visit Jambay Lhakhang, built in the 7th century, and Kurjey Lhakhang, where Guru Rinpochoe meditated. Take a scenic walk across a suspension bridge to Tamshing Lhakhang. End the day with a visit to Bumthang Town.

After breakfast, drive to the remote and lush Tang Valley, one of Bumthang's four valleys. Known for sheep and yak farming, the valley's soil isn't ideal for cultivation. Upon arrival, take a walk-through upper Tang villages, interact with locals, and visit their homes. Next, visit the century-old Ogyencholing Heritage Museum, once a royal palace. Enjoy a light lunch and tea at a farmhouse nearby before exploring the museum's artifacts. On your return to Bumthang, stop at Mebar Tsho (Burning Lake), a sacred site linked to the treasure revealer, Terton Pema Lingpa.

After breakfast, drive to Phobjikha Valley via Trongsa and Pelela Pass. Phobjikha is part of the Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, a key nature sanctuary and home to the endangered black-necked cranes during winter. The valley’s remote hills are inhabited by nomadic shepherds and yak herders. Upon arrival, check into your hotel in Phobjikha and enjoy leisure time in the evening.

After breakfast, visit Gangtey Monastery and take a short 30-minute hike along the Gangtey Nature Trail, offering spectacular views of Phobjikha valley and its villages, ending at the Black-Necked Crane Center. At the center, learn about the cranes that migrate here in November and leave by March, with a few injured or rescued cranes remaining. Afterward, take a walk-through fields and farmhouses, interacting with locals and visiting their homes. Enjoy a traditional Bhutanese lunch at a farmhouse, then drive back to Thimphu via Wangdue Phodrang and Dochula Pass. Upon arrival, check into your hotel in Thimphu.

After breakfast, drive to Paro and visit Dzongdrakha Lhakhang, often called the mini-Taktsang. The temples, perched on cliffs above Bondey village, can be reached by a 15-minute walk. Legend says one temple was built around a levitating monument, with the hope that it wouldn’t fly away. After lunch, visit Paro Dzong by walking over the traditional Cantilever Rimpung Bridge, the oldest bridge in Bhutan. Built in 1645, the Dzong now serves as an administrative center and school for monks. Walk back down to the bridge. Next, explore the National Museum housed in the Ta Dzong (watchtower), which features a fascinating collection of Bhutanese artifacts. In the evening, enjoy free time to explore Paro Town.

Overnight in Paro.

After breakfast, drive to the base of Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) and hike up to the viewpoint, which takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. Enjoy stunning views of the monastery clinging to the cliff, and stop for refreshments at the viewpoint cafeteria. Take photos with Taktsang in the background. Continue hiking for another hour to reach the monastery. After visiting, walk back downhill, stopping for lunch at the viewpoint cafeteria before returning to the road. On the way, visit Kyichu Temple, one of the 108 temples built in the 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. Next, visit a local farmhouse for a glimpse into Bhutanese farm life, where you’ll enjoy a traditional lunch and try archery using a bamboo bow and arrow. In the evening, relax in a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath at a farmhouse in the Paro valley. Afterward, enjoy a traditional Bhutanese dinner with the farmhouse family.
