Six Sense Itinerary
Fly on the wings of the Dragon to Bhutan! Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, complete Immigration formalities and meet our team. After a warm welcome with a khaddar (scarf), we’ll drive to Thimphu, about 90 minutes away, passing picturesque villages along the way. First, visit the Arts and Crafts School, where students master Bhutanese art techniques, including carving, painting, and sculpture. Photography is allowed, and student-made products are available for purchase. Next, explore the Folk Heritage Museum, offering insights into Bhutanese life, followed by a visit to Tashichho Dzong, home to the throne room and government offices.

Thimphu, Bhutan's vibrant capital, blends modernity with tradition, known for its lack of traffic lights and cultural charm. Start with visit the giant Buddha Dordenma statue, one of the world's largest, offering stunning valley views. For a hike, trek to Changangkha Lhakhang, or drive if preferred. Next, explore Pangri Zampa Lhakhang for a private astrology reading, and visit the Royal Textile Museum to learn about Bhutan's weaving heritage. Stop by the National Post Office to create a personalized Bhutanese stamp.

Drive to Punakha from Thimphu, crossing Dochula Pass with stunning Himalayan views. After a stop at Dochula, continue into Punakha, one of Bhutan's warmest areas. Visit Dochula Pass with its 108 chortens, Chimi Lhakhang, known for fertility blessings, and Punakha Dzong, built in 1637 at the meeting point of two rivers. Walk across the Punakha Suspension Bridge, one of the longest in Bhutan, to experience local village life.

Punakha, often called Bhutan's second capital, is home to the country's most beautiful Dzongs and offers stunning views of the Himalayas. Enjoy the tranquility of the Mo Chhu and Po Chhu rivers and the serene beauty of the valley while visiting Punakha Dzong and one of the longest suspension bridge in the country. Hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten, a beautiful temple in the Punakha Valley. Dedicated to Buddha, the temple features stunning murals and offers panoramic views of the Punakha Valley, rivers, and mountains. Visitors reach the temple by a scenic 45-minute hike through rice fields and forests. It’s a peaceful spot for reflection and photography, blending spiritual significance with natural beauty.

As we return to Paro, we'll retrace our journey through Dochula and Chuzom, offering another chance to enjoy the stunning snow-capped Himalayan views. Visit Semtokha Dzong, known for its 12-sided central tower and historical significance. The dzong houses the chambers of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel and Jigme Namgyel, key figures in Bhutan's history. At Chuzom, where three rivers meet, admire the welcoming portrait of Bhutan's King and Queen. Continue to Rinpung Dzong, a striking fortress built in 1644, offering breathtaking views of the valley. Explore the National Museum of Paro, housed in a former watchtower, with excellent collections of Bhutanese artifacts. Afterward, try your hand at archery, Bhutan’s national sport, and enjoy the lively local customs.

Paro is a picturesque region known for its fertile rice fields, crystal-clear rivers, and historical sites, including the world-renowned Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang) Temple. Perched 900 meters above the valley on a sheer cliff, Taktsang is one of Bhutan’s holiest sites. While fit trekkers can reach the temple in two hours, most take a full day to complete the hike. In the evening visit a farmhouse to experience traditional lifestyle of Bhutanese and enjoy Bhutanese cuisine for the night.

As your Drukair flight winds its way through the valley, arriving in Bhutan is truly a unique experience. When you land, have your camera ready, as many passengers are often left in awe as they step onto the tarmac. After disembarking, proceed to immigration where you'll present your Visa Approval letter and passport for the official stamp. Once you've cleared immigration, head to the baggage claim area where you'll meet your guide for the first time. The drive to Thimphu takes about 1 ½ hours. After checking into your accommodation and settling in, you'll have the option to visit the National Memorial Chorten, Textile Museum, Folk Heritage Museum, or National Library. If time allows, you can also take a leisurely walk along the Main Street to explore some fascinating Himalayan artifacts and textiles.

This morning, you'll head to the northern end of the valley to visit Trashi Chhoe Dzong, the seat of Bhutan's government and royal offices. You'll also stop by Pangri Zampa, a pair of 16th-century buildings that now serve as a monastic training school for astrologers. If you're up for a short hike, you can make your way to the head of the valley and visit Cheri Goemba, the monastery where Bhutan's first monastic body was established. Back in town, you'll have the opportunity to explore some of the capital’s cottage industries, including traditional paper-making and hand-rolled incense production.

Today, you'll be transferred to Paro, where you can visit the National Museum, located in the Ta Dzong (watchtower). The museum's fascinating collection of artifacts offers a great introduction to Bhutan's rich culture and heritage. A short walk downhill will bring you to the impressive Paro Dzong, a stunning example of traditional Bhutanese architecture. From the Dzong, the tour will cross Nyamai Zampa, a traditional cantilever bridge, before heading to the town temple, built in 1525, where you can admire the ancient wall paintings.

This morning, you have a choice of excursions. For those interested in a deeper immersion into Bhutan's culture and religion, visits to Kyichu Lhakhang, Dumtse Lhakhang, and the Drukgyel Dzong altar room can be arranged. For hikers, a scenic trail behind the lodge offers a beautiful route that takes you past Drukgyel Dzong, along the Paro Chhu river, across a suspension bridge, and through terraced farmland and forests. The trail loops back down the river to a second bridge, crossing it to return to the lodge.

Today, you will embark on an auspicious pilgrimage to one of Bhutan's most revered landmarks, the Taktshang Goemba, commonly known as the "Tiger's Nest". This four to five-hour trek offers breathtaking views of the sacred monastery perched 900 meters above the valley floor. Mules and donkeys will be available to ease the effort of the climb, and a delightful picnic will be served along the way. After the trek, you’ll have the rest of the day at leisure to relax, perhaps enjoying a soothing spa treatment to relieve the blessed aches from your morning pilgrimage.
